Hi everyone, i have a DNS question. Is it possible to add existing private DNS servers to netmaker as nodes. And then configure external clients to use this as dns server?

Nah it did not work as i expected. I can not resolve internal domains hosted on private DNS server (added as node in netmaker). Does anyone have experience in using private (existing) DNS server for Ext Clients...?

you mean like in using your own dns server to give to nodes? That is currently not possible

I would like ability for my external clients to connect in our netmaker vpn network and resolve our company internal domains that are on our company DNS server. And this DNS server is added as node in netmaker also.

I have found a file in coredns volume called Corefile. In this file forwarding DNS is hard coded to google dns servers. root@vpn-server:/var/lib/docker/volumes/opt_dnsconfig/_data# cat Corefile . { reload 15s hosts /root/dnsconfig/netmaker.hosts { fallthrough } forward . 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 log }

That is true but for some reason even if you put custom dns servers in your network configuration. Requests are still goint to coredns container. It does not send dns requests to my custom dns servers set in network configuration but instead it goes to coredns container...

I guess my DNS server needs to have public (WAN) IP not private (LAN).

if netmaker server is ingress, it forwards dns requests to coredns regardless of destination, if that setting is on

ok I've moved some stuff around so that my docker-compose basically matches the example one. Everything comes up except- no data for some reason it's not connecting to the database which is now at /root/sqldata I'm going a bit cross eyed trying to figure this out, because the only place in the .yml file that mentions a location is volumes: - dnsconfig:/root/config/dnsconfig - sqldata:/root/data - shared_certs:/etc/netmaker Maybe there's a way to ask Netmaker which DB it is using?

- sqldata:/root/data --- tells docker to use a docker volume (sqldata) and map it to /root/data in the container ... if you changed that to /root/sqldata --- netmaker is still looking for the db file in /root/data

haha that's a bit Inception like when I read it back... I think that's correct- I have a directory called 'sqldata' in my Root home folder. It has the database inside. The config file tells Netmaker that the directory 'sqldata' should be mapped to containers required '/root/data/' Sound ok?

you need to specify the full path for a bind mount so it should be /root/sqldata:/root/data

that is because they are docker volumes not bind mounts ..... the docker volumes are in /var/lib/docker/volumes/
